Custom AI Systems · when the answer is purpose-built software

Build the tool your team has been wishing for.

Bring the workflow and the expertise. We connect your systems and build the AI tools that help your people do better work. Customer-facing software products have their own home at Sprinter.ai.

Find the right starting point

Bring the workflow decision package, systems, representative data, owner, acceptance tests, and build-versus-buy reasoning. If custom software is not justified, we will say so before scoping it.

§ 01The engagement

What you leave with

Included

  • Product boundary, architecture, data model, and system integration design
  • Model, vendor, retrieval, agent, and deterministic-logic decisions based on the workflow
  • Evaluations, permissions, human approvals, observability, and incident boundaries
  • Implementation using reusable Sprinter platform components where appropriate
  • Deployment, documentation, training, SOP changes, and ownership handoff
  • Evidence review against the agreed baseline and acceptance criteria
  • Explicit maintenance, support, vendor, hosting, and change-management terms

Not included

  • Custom software merely because it sounds more strategic than buying
  • A fixed timeline or price before systems, data, dependencies, and acceptance criteria are known
  • Permanent founder dependency or an undocumented black box only Sprinter can operate
  • Automatic rights to productize, resell, or reuse client-specific data and logic

§ 02How the work moves

How does the work move?

Phase 01

Architect the operating product

Translate the workflow into the system boundary, data and document model, integrations, approval paths, evaluation plan, observability, and acceptance criteria.

Phase 02

Build through evidence gates

Deliver the smallest coherent system in increments, test representative and adversarial cases, expose uncertainty, and keep scope tied to the operating decision.

Phase 03

Deploy, adopt, and hand off

Release into the real environment, train owners and users, monitor exceptions and support burden, document the system, and decide maintenance and the next gate.

Who this is for

Is this the right fit for us?

A good starting point

  • A completed build-versus-buy decision with custom work clearly justified
  • A named sponsor, workflow owner, product owner, and adoption owner
  • Representative inputs, edge cases, system access, and a usable baseline
  • Acceptance tests, trust boundaries, and maintenance expectations
  • Budget and decision authority aligned with the real implementation scope

When another path fits better

  • A speculative product idea without customer access or distribution
  • No workflow owner, no representative data, or no natural review boundary
  • A request to clone a generic SaaS feature without differentiated operating value
  • An expectation that scope can remain undefined while price and deadline remain fixed

FAQ

What operators ask about Custom AI Systems.

01When should we build custom instead of buy?

Custom is justified when the workflow depends on proprietary operating logic, unusual documents or data, multiple systems, important exceptions, differentiated customer experience, or economics a general tool cannot support. The Opportunity Audit is designed to test that decision before build spend begins.

02Does Sprinter build everything from scratch?

No. Sprinter uses proven vendors, models, infrastructure, connectors, and reusable platform components where they fit. Custom work should concentrate on the workflow, data model, orchestration, trust boundaries, and product experience that create operating value.

03Can the system become a product later?

Possibly, but productization is a separate commercial and IP decision. A software product with its own users, product owner, and roadmap belongs in Sprinter AI's product-development practice. A client implementation does not automatically grant Sprinter the right to sell it elsewhere, and one useful deployment is not evidence of a market. Distribution, repeatability, rights, support economics, and customer demand must be proven separately.

04Who maintains the system?

The agreement defines ownership, hosting, observability, incident response, model and vendor updates, support boundaries, and handoff. Maintenance can sit with the client, Sprinter under Managed AI Execution, or another approved provider.

05What makes this different from staff augmentation?

Sprinter owns the product and workflow decision system around the build: scope, architecture, evaluations, trust, adoption, evidence, and handoff. The work is contracted around an operating outcome and acceptance criteria rather than a pool of undirected developer hours.
